Years ago I watched the the film 'Sliding Doors' and thought it was a clever idea to base the story on the 'what if' of life . If you've never seen it here's a brief summary:
The split-second moments that can take a life down one path instead of another form the tantalizing what if? in this delightful romantic comedy starring Gwyneth Paltrow. Paltrow plays London publicist Helen, effortlessly sliding between parallel story lines that show what happens if she does or does not catch a morning train back to her apartment. Love. Romantic entanglements. Deception. Trust. Friendship. Comedy. All comes into focus as the two stories shift back and forth, overlap, then surprisingly converge in one of the most provocative romantic comedy in years!" (By www.axelmusic.com)
This morning I had my own mini version. I asked a friend for a lift home to save a bit of time walking. Through a misunderstanding I thought she was going a different way so I headed off home. As she drove pass me and waved I thought "Oh no, I could have had a lift after all". It was then I thought to myself I was obviously meant to walk home. And if that were the case what would be different about this walk.
Perhaps it was the unexpected appearance of a couple of Jays. They were beautiful all pink, blue and white. It's ages since I last saw Jays.
And then there was the tub of pansies, bright yellow against the drab listless looking shrubs and damp grass around it. I was impressed, I didn't expect to still see pansies considering the amount of frost we've had recently.
When things don't turn out as we expect them to, perhaps the alternative route shows us just what we need to see if we open our eyes to it. Just a thought!
Warmest wishes,
Zoe
What a fabulous metaphor for life Zoe. Yes, it is great to have plans and direction but the Joy of taking a "different route" ocassionally and exploring a new path can be the stuff dreams are made of.
